New video for Best Coast's 'Our Deal'. It's a sumptuous little pop track and the video - directed by Drew Barrymore none-the-less - is a surreal Romeo and Juliet/Dirty Dancing type affair involving rival school gangs and a less than happy ending...

New Video: Bombay Bicycle Club - 'Shuffle'

Sometimes I really wish I was in a band and the video for Bombay Bicycle Club's new single - which follows the Londoners on the road - only cements such feelings. 'Shuffle' is a mightily impressive return regardless, with that unorthodox opening keyboard riff and lush vocals making it one of my favourite singles of the year so far.

'Shuffle’ can be found on new LP A Different Kind Of Fix which is out at the end of August.

New Video: REID - 'Genesis'

Young Cork producer REID has been attracting quite a bit of attention since emerging recently, with his stellar Genesis EP deservedly earning him a healthy number of followers. For his debut music video he moulds (...) an interesting stop motion animation from Czech artist Jan Švankmajer into the backdrop to what is a blissful chillwavey track.

My, my, how The Horrors have grown. From their hodge-podge indie-rock beginnings the group are now an altogether far more interesting and mature prospect - harnessing the power of the 80s and early 90s to full effect on new album Skying. Here's the official video for the Simple Minds-esque 'Still Life' - an essential, anthemic number with clever synths and a near definite for many end of year lists.

Bipolar Empire - 'Why So Sad?' [Red Radar Video]

Fresh from delivering an excellent debut album in the form of Feel That You Own It, Bipolar Empire popped into Red Radar and delivered a lovely acoustic rendition of 'Why So Sad?'

As with the album version this is uplifting, vocally outstanding and harmonious to nth degree.

Justice - 'Civilisation' [New Video]

After its appearance on that Adidas ad here's the official promo video for Justice's comeback single - 'Civilization'. With the video centered around an impressive theme of destruction and wild animals, the song itself is sadly a bit tame. Sure, the chorus packs a punch but having been subjected to that overlong, plodding intro you'll have probably drifted off by then. Fingers crossed for a decent remix.

Moths - 'Summer' [New Video]

If you haven't sampled 18-year-old Jack Colleran's amazing work yet then you're missing out. The talk of the town thus far in 2011, the innovative beats he has spun under the Moths moniker have marked him out as one of our most prodigious talents. This beautiful, hypnotic video for 'Summer' was directed by Feel Good Lost.

The Casanova Wave - 'The Casanova Wave' [Official Video]

With The Casanova Wave fun is always the order of the day. With a debut EP that was "a positive blend of chirpy beats...hand claps and smiley faces" the official video for the title track brings sunshine, lots of colour and a mass pillow fight - in short, a perfect representation of the track itself.

Video: O Emperor - 'We Were Young' (New Song)

At the Bulmers Music Trail launch on Friday I was lucky enough to catch Waterford's O Emperor pop in for a lunchtime gig in Dublin's South William Bar. Among a set that included the best cuts from their incredibly accomplished debut Hither Tither they also played a new track called 'We Were Young' and what a charming little serenade it is too. Apologies for the less than perfect quality - this blogging business hasn't paid enough for a proper camera just yet!

The Bulmers Live Music Trail which will see the likes of Bryan Ferry, Cathy Davey and The Undertones play various Waterford venues for FREE from June 30 to July 2. More info here as it arrives.

New Video: Wild Beasts - 'Albatross'

This new one from Wild Beasts is growing on me with every listen. Initially I expected more from a 'comeback single' and was underwhelmed by it's lack of aggression but its subtle beauty has now managed to work its way into my pores. Sumptuous and reflective, its soothing tones are matched by an equally beautiful, avante-garde video where the band watch over a set of female dancers...

New album Smother is out on May 9 and Wild Beasts play Forbidden Fruit this June Bank Holiday weekend.

New Video: The Minutes - 'Black Keys'

For all the burgeoning electronica (Moths, The Casanova wave), driven indie (Spies, Bipolar Empire) lush acoustic numbers (Villagers, James V. McMorrow) and general oblique mentalness (Patrick Kelleher, Adebisi Shank et al) what's been lacking (to my ears) from an admittedly amazing Irish current music scene is a balls-to-the-wall outfit that I can identify with - someone with swagger, gusto and tunes in equal proportions and Dublin three-piece The Minutes are making a strong claim for that title.

They've been doing the rounds for quite some time now but 'Black Keys', their debut single on Model Citizen, suggests big things and follows in the vein of last year's equally excellent 'Fleetwood'. Check out the stylishly aggressive black and white video below and buy the single now via iTunes. 

New Video: Strands - 'Chow Bell'

Another sweet stop-motion video, this time courtesy of Strands, the solo project of Steve Shannon of Halfset fame.

According to the blurb the video consists of stop motion imagery of a wide assortment of vintage audio cassette tapes. All the imagery was either scanned with an Epson 4490 flatbed scanner -or- shot with a Canon 7D, then Photoshopped and sequenced to create this montage.

New Video: Big Monster Love - Free Gaff Forever

Slightly late to the game with this one but a video this good deserves to be seen. I've yet to be bowled over by the track itself, though it does have a quaint sort of charm to it, but the video is a work of art. The level of effort needed for these stop-motion projects always blows me away.

The brilliantly titled 'Free Gaff Forever' is from Big Monster Love's 'Game Over' album which Ronan over at Swear I'm Not Paul certainly loved - check out his nostalgia-tinged review now.

The video was directed by Bowsie Workshop and you can stream/download 'Game Over' via Bandcamp.

New Video: Millionyoung - Replicants

New video for 'Replicants', the title track from Florida based Millionyoung's latest release. With chirpy cascading electronic beats and swooning vocals it's a stand out track from a thoroughly enjoyable album which has been making my ears very happy in recent weeks. 

The video is comprised of two short films, "Hoola Boola"(1941) and "South Sea Sweethearts"(1938) both by George Pal, who according to the blurb, is one of "the best stop-motion animators of all time" so there you have it. It's certainly apt as that little dude playing guitar on the beach is exactly how I imagine Millionyoung making his gloriously sunny tunes.

New Video: Kid Karate - Heart

Oddly hypnotic new video from Kid Karate for the thunderous title track from their 'Heart' EP. It features pictures of the pair performing live and their recent Polish tour, as well as abstract shots of war, a bear playing the drums, and everything in between. Top work.

It was directed by frontman Kevin Breen and you can download the excellent 'Heart' EP (STL review here) for free via Bandcamp now.









 

New Video: Bipolar Empire - Feel That You Own It

Great new video from rising Tallaght four-piece Bipolar Empire, which features World Boxing Champion Katie Taylor. 

'Feel That You Own It' previously reached number 20 in the Irish charts and this reworked version thankfully keeps the anthemic chorus and soaring vocals of the original version and propels them even further. The track is released as a single on April 1st and whets the appetite for their debut album which is set to follow soon after.

The second single taken from their forthcoming second LP 'You Say, We Say', it's an instantly catchy slice of synth-fused-indie, with a killer chorus and some risqué lyrics thrown in for good measure.

New Video: Pepper Rabbit - Harvest Moon

A splendid new video for 'Harvest Moon' which featured on Beauregard, the acclaimed debut LP from Los Angeles based Pepper Rabbit.

I introduced this two-piece late last year, with their achingly beatitful 'Older Brother' making a large dent in STL's Top Songs of 2010 and 'Harvest Moon' arrives with more of the same breezy indie vibes.

Their charms don't seem to have spread much further than the States as of yet but no doubt they soon will.

New Video: Windings - Poor In The Mouth

An excellent new official video from Limerick based Windings, which featured on last year's It's Never Night LP. 

Windings have a lingering charm, which propelled them into many of  last years 'Best Of' lists and you can stream It's Never Night in its entirety from here.

The video is directed by Chad Hartigan (www.chadhartigan.com) and features scenes from "Drugs Are Like That" by WPBT-TV
