I loved White Collar Boy'sSolar Midnight EP and 'Capslock' - arguably the best track on it - now has an accompanying video. It comes courtesy of the creative types at 1441, a new collective comprised of DIT students, and it features some nice time-lapsed footage interspersed with shots of Gemma Dunlovely, whose sweet vocals are present on the track itself.

My how time flies. I first introduced White Collar Boy back in January of this year but quite a lot has changed since then. What began as a one-man show has now evolved into a duo, with fledgling beatmakers Gavin White and Mark Cummins teaming up having met at the Primavera festival in Barcelona. It may be a result of the pair's natural synergy - or even just an inevitable refinement of the original sound - but these latest tracks glisten with confidence; feeling fuller, more assured and more complete. The loose, flowing rhythms and funky finale of 'Noah' make it an obvious standout but the real pinnacle is 'Capslock' - as Gemma Dunlovely's super sweet vocals do battle with some assertive beats. It's really promising stuff overall and there's enough clever ideas on show here to mark the pair out as a very exciting proposition.
A first single is pencilled in for early next year but for the moment you can catch them every second Thursday in Pygmalion, where they host live shows and DJ sets.
Their next proper live show proper is a headline slot with Bouts, Futures Apart and Ginnels in Crawdaddy this Sunday (December 18th).
I've been digging the work of Dublin newcomer White Collar Boy since he first emerged a few months back and now he's now gearing up to release his debut EP - The Abbey Tractor. The launch gig will take place in The Grand Social at 8pm on Thursday June 9th, with support from Tadgh O Sullivan aka Harbourmaster - and it's all free!
From the Orbital-like flourish of 'Here We Go again!' to the sprawling electro vibes of 'Howl' there's genuinely much to admire here - each song laden with numerous hooks and all seemingly tailor-made to dominate your grey matter.

Having introduced him a short while ago and been majorly impressed by his initial batch of home produced recordings, Dublin's White Collar Boy has thrown a couple of new tracks into the mix.
'Here We Go Again' is a euphoric, instrumental number, while the wonderfully titled 'Angel Headed Hipsters' has a lush, chilled out vibe as it meanders along for an enjoyably spacey six minutes.
'Angel Headed Hipsters' will feature on White Collar Boy's forthcoming debut EP, which is set for release early this Summer.
It's a great feeling to stumble upon something new that is both fully formed and genuinely interesting...and it's also an added bonus when they're Irish. Yesterday evening, Kid Karate (follow them here - sound chaps) piqued my interest with a tweet about their friend who had just posted up recordings - a mysterious young man named Gavin White, who goes under the guise of White Collar Boy. These sort of tip offs don't always auger well but I was quickly won over.
Howl Again is six minutes of sprawling, stratified splendour, which glides along perfectly amid a winding guitar riff and wonderfully unpolished vocals. Despite it's length it never threatens to drift away, instead it changes pace at all the right moments, and amid these carefully stacked elements is the realisation that WCB possesses a certain knack for arrangement far beyond his humble status.
This Is (All Night) [Parts 1 and 2] is a more tranquil but equally compelling affair, as soft tones of discontent gradually give way to a warped vocal and tripped out beat. The insatiably catchy riff in The Return of the Hollow Eyed Saint and the accompanied low-key vocals could have been plucked straight from the creative mind of a certain David Kitt, while the more progressive, synth-driven maze of Another Way completes the quartet in explorative fashion.
A Dublin based multi-instrumentalist, very much in the mould of Kittser and Richie Egan, White Collar Boy is an exciting proposition. These tracks indicate that he bears all the necessary hallmarks to compete with the aforementioned trendsetters and it's been a while since I've been so taken by an artist I know so little about.
In fact, very little else is known of White Collar Boy at all...heck, even the accompanied picture is mysterious! Never the less, you can expect our caped crusader to emerge from the shadows pretty soon, these songs are simply too good for anything else.
